Kilimanjaro Day 4

The Barranga Wall. 800 ft high of rock scrambling. A welcome relief after long days of trail walking, hearing “Pole, Pole”, meaning slowly, slowly.

The path of hikers and porters. A lot of single file with not many opportunities to pass.

Traffic Jam. This was good for me, as it allowed me to stop and rest, without using the excuse that I was taking pictures.

A waterfall from halfway up. Although looks small, is probably 100 ft.

The empty camp from a couple of hundred ft. up.

You can see here all the heavy loads the porters carry.

Up at the top looking at Mount Meru.

And the objective. Is this thing getting any closer?

Here I am at the top of the wall.

Now its down the path and up the other side. You can see the path.

And some more up. It’s funny, they don’t seem to make any mountains that go down.

You can see the camp on the other side of the valley. Unfortunately, it’s a 1,000 ft valley, so down 1000 ft and up 1000 ft.

So close, yet so far.

Kananga Camp. 13,180 ft approx

Sunset over Mount Meru on the end of day 4. Got to get inside. It gets cold, fast, once the sun goes down.
